Wardle Anderson Brass Band returned from the North West Area Championships with a 7th place finish in the Championship Section — a result that reflects both the talent of our players and the exciting new direction the band is heading in.
It was a day filled with outstanding brass band music, fierce competition, and real pride for everyone connected with Wardle Anderson. Competing in the Championship Section against some of the finest bands in the North West, we performed Martin Ellerby's Elgar Variations — a substantial and demanding test piece — under the watchful ears of adjudicators Dr Robert Childs and Gavin Saynor.
To finish 7th in a section of this calibre is something we are genuinely proud of. But perhaps more importantly, it is a result that tells a story — one of a band that has been through a period of change and is emerging stronger, more focused, and more exciting than ever.
At the heart of this result is our new Musical Director, Jamie Cooper. The progress Jamie has made with the band in such a short space of time has been remarkable. His dedication, musical vision, and ability to get the very best out of every player has been clear for all to see, and this performance was a real testament to his work. We are incredibly fortunate to have him at the helm, and we look forward to everything that lies ahead under his direction.
To every player who took to the stage: you should be immensely proud. You represented this band brilliantly, and the hard work you have all put in over recent months shone through in every note.
Also a massive congratulations to our Community Band with an amazing First Place 🏆 in the Forth Section. This was their first ever venture into any form of competition. Well done for all you hard worked and reaped rewards!
